bowl & guiro

i sat down at the CBMAA Bonus Tuesday Lesson for Gallery Guide Trainees. We were going to learn about paint and surfaces in order to better understand the works in which we will someday be sharing with visitors to Crystal Bridges. Niki Ciccotelli, Director of Education and a former Imagineer for Disney and Illustrator gave the presentation. We then were allowed to produce some works on our own using the materials provided. I had noticed the percussion instrument on the table when i first sat down and recalled it having an interesting name. i quickly googled it on my iphone. Wikipedia lead me to its name and spelling: guiro with two dots over the "u".

I have only attempted one or two water colors in my life as an artist and was not very successful or interested in the craft. This time, as suggested by Niki, i began with a sketch and then focused in on the brushes, bowl of water and tray of paints.

It was magical....i could have painted for hours, so it felt. I left with a strong desire to take a class, a true art class in order to learn more about the tools and techniques. I am resolved to at least purchase some supplies and continue here at home and around the house on this new passion. I still want to pursue a more formal training as the opportunity presents itself....prayer list.

I finished reading a book today, reluctantly worked out at the gym, took a nap...began berating myself for not being more energetic, into my work out, falling asleep right after a late lunch and show on snipers... i stood on the back stoop and took my thoughts captive and gave my self love and comfort and reassurance. i decided that i will walk with God on this and in this time. He has something for me to acknowledge and to learn right now. i am not a machine, but a man...a human being, not doing....to learn to love my self and to be kind to myself as i would a friend or lover. To provide comfort, understanding, reassurance and encouragement...to seek out joy and be joyful. At peace with circumstance and accomplishment (or seemingly lack there of) ha ha ha.

He will provide, instruct, battle, heal, comfort, console, motivate, vendicate....all of the above.

Thank you, Lord for being so Kind with me and for Loving me. Amen
